Casts students in the role of judge to rule on 75 actual U.S. Supreme Court cases!

Description and Features

*UPDATED EDITION* This 144-page student book is used with the You Decide! teacher's guide—sold separately—to teach students about the Bill of Rights. Students learn the first 8 amendments (Bill of Rights) to the Constitution and then act as U.S. Supreme Court judges. Students acquire an in depth understanding of the Bill of Rights by:

     •  Learning each of the first 8 amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
     •  Reading real court cases involving each amendment.
     •  Judging each case based on their knowledge of the relevant amendment and the facts of the case.
     •  Comparing their ruling with the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Instruction/Answer Guide
Highly recommended and sold separately.  The 144-page guide includes objectives, suggestions, a graphic organizer to keep track of facts in each case, and the Supreme Court decisions. Because the student book does not contain the court decisions, use of the guide is essential.

I purchased the You Decide book and accompanying teacher's manual for a civics class I taught at a charter school. It was the students' favorite book! It was my first exposure to TCTC and we absolutely loved it.

Sometime around the 7th grade I introduced my son to the Supreme Court Cases in You Decide! and a variety of your critical thinking material. He was so inspired that he developed a debate team at his school. He became the president and state champion in the Lincoln Douglas debate, and was flown in to Harvard to debate national teams. Later he completed a triple major in biochem, evolutionary biology, and microbiology. Your books made the difference. He is a researcher and investigator for bioremediation now. Foundation is the secret to lifelong learning!

This has allowed us to put real meat on the bones of our study of government. Every week we find news events that provoke thoughtful discussion based on what we have learned through the texts. My students now know how the actions of a court 3,000 miles away could actually affect their daily lives.

I thought this book was so exceptional that I recommended it to our headmaster. I believe that all children need a better understanding of the laws that affect their lives.

I can't imagine a better method for teaching your students about the Bill of Rights and the U.S. legal system than using these books.
